An MOU with Washington is a paper shield. Trump is mentally deranged and a pathological liar, so every promise melts on contact. America’s record of broken deals speaks loudly. And now the silence, contradictions, and rushed signatures feel deeply suspicious. Iran should treat this not as diplomacy but as a warning flare: agreements can turn into traps the moment they’re signed.
I agree, but whatever trap the Americans may be planning, if they are, it will be limited in its practical effect. The weapons that matter most in this war have been political and economic, and the Americans have none of those to play. At least none that don’t essentially force a game of economic warfare chicken, for which the Iranians are better suited after 47 years of blockade, siege and warfare against them.
The Americans can not be trusted. That should be tattooed on their foreheads. But what I do trust is the stark shift in the opinion of the majority of the American people. They were already on board with hating Trump. But now their impatience with Israelis, and their willingness to see some semblance of reality, is very encouraging. Yes, these are AOC, Stephen Colbert liberals, but they are needed to achieve critical mass. They are the barometer of American sentiment, and every tic towards a repudiation of Zionist savagery is perhaps a life saved in Gaza or Beirut.
It remains breathtaking. What the Iranians accomplished. A sweeping and massive strategic defeat, even if the Americans do plan some kind of treachery in the near term, the power differential between the two Nations has completely flipped. It’s still difficult to fathom.
If you think that Trump is dangerous as an enemy, he is probably even worse as a friend. Isn't there some old Russian proverb like that about the British? "The only thing more dangerous to be than Britain's enemy is her friend"...
This is assuming that Trump has any cognitive power left as the senility takes over.
I confess, I didn’t think Trump was even capable of accepting reality. I know that’s kind of a irrational view to have, but when I think of Trump, the last thing I think of is Trump as a rational actor.
From go to woe, the Iran war has been a worldwide humiliation for the US. Almost as big a blunder as the invasion of Ukraine, it will go down in history as one of the ugliest botched jobs of a delusional and hugely incompetent leader.
Up to now I have studiously refrained from calling a winner in the US/Israeli war against Iran but I think the time has now come when the world can breathe a small sigh of relief. Iran has triumphed over its enemies, not least the half-wits that make up the New Zealand government. We can look forward to a new era in which the people of Iran will restore the standards of international conduct not just in the Middle East, but throughout the world at large.
I would call it stupidity rather than mischief. "Acknowledging" the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, without condemning them. Gratuitously asserting that "No one should mourn" the assassinated Iranian spiritual leader. Refusing to condemn the bombing of a girls' elementary school on the first day of the US war of aggression. Then, even at this stage when a US defeat was clearly imminent, joining in the ridiculous, slanderous and totally unsubstantiated allegation that Iran had been orchestrating attacks against Jews in Europe, Australia and elsewhere. This is just to look at the last few months when any competent statesmen with access to credible intelligence (in fact any well informed citizen) could see that the US and Israeli aggression was likely to break against the rock of Iranian resistance. New Zealand not only hitched itself to the losing side. It joined in with self professed pirates and war criminals in a dedicated attempt to destroy the international rule of law. Only one possible conclusion: the Realm of New Zealand is run by a very stupid bunch of people. Clowns or criminals? Both, I'm afraid.

But, yes, the Americans should not be trusted.

That’s well said Sera.

Until Israel is reined in, it's too early to assess whether Trump is connected to reality.

What mischief has NZ been up to?

That is very well described Geoff!
